Make It Vancouver

This looks like a great thing to do this weekend...early holiday shopping? I just realized this clearly isn't meant to be a poster as it says press kit across the middle. Oh well. Now it is.

Psychedelic Cat Synchronicity

A few weeks ago, I happened to learn about Louis Wain (1860-1939) an artist known for his awesome, seemingly psychedelic paintings of cats. He wasn't actually (as far as anyone knows) taking any psychedelics but he was institutionalized later in life for what modern psychology would call schizophrenia. I think many of his paintings look as though they were done by someone seeing multi-dimensionally.

Then, the other day I happened to come across this post about him on the fashion blog Cat Party.

A few days after that, while watching TV, I noticed his paintings were featured in this music video for teeny-bopper Canadian artist Lights.

Why are there Louis Wain cats everywhere I look?

too much to dream

Ruby 2010.

I can't find out much about Ruby except that it's from New Zealand. Also, that none of these things are on their website yet, but a lot of other cool stuff is. Saw these images on Knight Cat and had to steal/share them. This collection is just too ideal for me, it's kind of painful.

I feel like everything here could theoretically be found in the most perfect, imagined vintage store of my dreams. If it does exist, and if the internet has taught me anything, it's probably in a tiny town somewhere in the American South. Certainly not in Vancouver - land of '80s and '90s 'secondhand' sludge-filled stores. I guess that's cool if you like that sort of thing, but I dream of the '60s and '70s. The last two looks are my favourites...cream crochet is a serious weakness of mine. Also, I want those shoes please.

Bad Romance

What was life before Lady Gaga? My favourite parts are Gaga in brand-new McQueen that was on the runway like, 2 weeks ago? And the relaxation pods/coffins? Okay, the whole thing is my favourite.

I think Lady Gaga is pretty much the only (mainstream) person in 2009 giving us anything new or interesting in entertainment. Maybe her music is not my thing but I don't even care - she's more of a space robot Madonna Barbie than a musician, right?
The other day my boyfriend told me that I am the only one who loves Gaga and that our friends just pretend to like her to my face to avoid making me feel bad. Ha. YOU CAN'T EVER MAKE ME FEEL BAD ABOUT GAGA!

Updated to add: White Lightning expressed my thoughts perfectly on the subject: "If you love fashion, and don't love GAGALOO TOO..then you don't get the joke, you don't get the fun, you don't get the THING. You don't have to love the music (bad move) but you have to LOVE THE LOVE."

Halloween Options

Halloween is absolutely my favourite holiday. Obviously! It involves both dressing up and candy...basically my favourite things. Every year, I start thinking about what my costume will be around the end of August, and every year I don't know until a day or two before Halloween. This either shows what a huge procrastinator I am or maybe I just like to surprise myself? Clearly mystery is important to me, even mysteries I keep from myself. Since there will be a party at my house on Halloween I really need to decide soon. Some ideas I have been kicking around (I promise to decide on one either by the end of this post or by the time I leave the fabric store later today).

A skunk? My cats name is Skunk. I stole this idea from him. We would match...

Wednesday Adams. Very Halloweeney, right? One of my roommates came up with this idea for me. Probably because it would really not be very much of a stretch for me to 'dress up' as Wednesday. Basically, all I would have to do is braid my hair...and wear my normal clothes.

Donatella. This would be hilarious and fun. Mainly because I would like to own a blonde wig. However, I don't think I own any gowns that are Versace enough or any gowns. Am I spelling gowns correctly? This word has now lost all meaning to me. Gown gown gowwwwnn.

A cat. Also an idea stolen from my cat. I could wear all black, ears, a tail, and face paint. This is the ultimate backup of backup costumes.

Some version of an alien. I like this green one from old Star Trek but she is too literal. I would go for more of an alien terrorist attacking earth concept. Yep.

Diana Ross from The Supremes era. Again, I own no gowns. But, she would be a really fun character to play...also fun hair.

Lastly, my most probable contender...Yoko Ono. I can't decide if I would do wedding day in Gibraltar Yoko, all-black Something video Yoko or just every day floppy hat, sunglasses and hot pants Yoko.

Any input? What are all of you being for Halloween?

We are often just a little deprived on the fashion front here in Vancouver. It was Canadian Thanksgiving this past weekend in case you were wondering.

Finally, we have Forever 21. Fingers crossed that it's just as good as it is in the Land of (Shopping) Opportunity.
