Style Icon: The Zig Zag Man

Have you ever taken a close look at the mustachioed little French man who smiles at you from the front of every package of Zig Zags? Last night I did and it was quite a style epiphany. These days I am really into simple and easy and the idea of personal uniforms and really, who does that better than Mr. Zig Zag, or as I imagine his real name to be, Pierre?

In my imagination he is a chain (joint) smoking farmer from the South of France who makes cheese and paintings in his spare time. He doesn't need to think about his style though, because he is style. This guy has French chic and je ne sais quoi down. With his jaunty rasta-beret, relaxed attitude and so au currant suspenders, he is one stylish logo.

When I pointed his coolness out to my boyfriend and suggested he take Pierre as his personal style icon, he asked me if a waxed mustache was a required element of the look.

Quick Dress Post

I saw this dress online yesterday and I wasn't going to bother posting it but then today I was still thinking about it; which is always a good sign that you really, really like something. Despite it looking vaguely like a tablecloth I am really into it. It's even better than that other fringey dress I adore.

New Vancouver Vintage Store Opening

If you're looking for some partying and shopping all-in-one, you may want to check out the opening party for Main Street's newest vintage store Frank tonight. Unfortch I cannot attend, but I do hope some of you do not let this awesome poster art go to waste.

Since all CNN will talk about is MJ, here is some actual news...

It's no secret that the U.S. loves to back military coups in Latin America, but did you know one is happening right now? Honduras finally had a good thing going with their new president so of course it couldn't last long...

Updated to add: I've decided to just not acknowledge Canada Day this year, as I feel more than a little disappointed in my country. Wake up, everyone! We have a dictator in power and he is selling us off to the lowest bidder. I'm wearing black today, not just because I always do, but also to mourn the death of our parliamentary system.

TARGET! Please Come to Canada!

Basically, this is just too good to be true. Anna Sui has designed a collection for Target inspired by Gossip Girl. Yes, you read that right. Okay, so, we'll all just sit up here in Canada being jealous while all you Yanks run out and buy these pieces. I've always loved Anna Sui for all her beautiful hippie collections and I am wondering when a Canadian retailer is going to start doing some designer collaborations...Zellers, I'm looking at you. Joe Fresh by Alexander Wang perhaps? I can see it.
My favourites are the first and last dresses in that lineup (my collage only shows about half the looks). The white/beige dress with the blue bow is really special and the black, button-up, jumper dress is just the best kind of everyday dress ever.

A little Ice is always nice

The lovely Nadia over at ice.com was kind enough to send me this long chain, silver necklace which I've wanted to post for ages. The only problem is that I seem to have done some permanent damage to my camera and somehow also messed up my boyfriend's camera too....um oops. Since we haven't bought a new one yet, I can't post my own photos of the necklace so this one from their website will have to do for now.
I know that a fashion blogger without a camera is like... um... a fisherman without a fishing rod? Or, you know...just fill in whatever, probably better metaphor you thought of yourself because I just can't think of one right now.
Once we're done moving houses in a few weeks, I'll be getting an awesome new camera which I've already picked out and it will be all about the outfit posts and Vancouver street style around here.

Shoe Thoughts

What do we think of these Jeffrey Campbell sandals? They sort of seem like the culmination of every gladiator sandal to come before them, but then they are also a new direction and an organic offshoot of a dying trend. Although I would wear them styled in a modern bohemian way, they seem to almost toe the line of being a 'mom' shoe and would immediately launch into J. Crew territory with the wrong clothes. It may largely be the colour I'm attracted to, as I seem to want every bag and shoe to be in this exact caramel shade of leather. Okay, final decision: they are pretty great.
