My New Wedges

My new wedge sandals purchased at the Aldo outlet on Granville this weekend.

These were on sale and only $30!

I am pretty obsessed with them. I really love the straps, the caramel colour and the wood heel.

They are ridiculously high however. I measured the heel last night and it is 5"! That puts me at 6' tall! Despite the height, they are super comfortable and easy to walk in. With the platform in front I am only really on a 3" heel.

These were a completely frivolous purchase and I know it. I'm sure I'll wear them a few times, but the real pleasure is just in owning something so beautiful. They are like art to me.

Just a few shots from this weekend.

L's new gladiator-esque sandals.

Tomorrow I'll post about my amazing new wedge sandals.

Tag This!

Okay, so I am going to reluctantly follow through on being 'tagged' by another blog despite the akward chain-letter undertones of the whole thing. Something about forcing others to pass on a task to even more people seems uncomfortable to me. Kind of like all those applications people request for you to add on facebook so you can see which '80s pop song best describes your friendship. Not to be a spoilsport, but I'm not going to pass on the tagging burden. If you want to tell the world some narcissistic shit about yourself too, by all means.

Tam Pham's tag gave me these rules:

Link the person who tagged you.
Mention the rules in your blog.
Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours.
Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them.
Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger's blogs letting them know they've been tagged.

Okay, so, also, "unspectacular quirks"? Why even bother if they are unspectacular? I clearly need to try and up the ante.

1. I am pretty much convinced at this point in my life that my spirit animal is an otter.

2. I am a lacto-ovo-pesco vegetarian. The pesco is pretty recent. Honestly though, I wish I could be vegan.

3. I believe that, not only do aliens exist, they are so definitely living among us on earth.

4. I am probably the only half-Greek, half-Jewish person in Canada, well, aside from my siblings.

5. I'm a dual-citizen and I could be a tri-citizen if I can get my shit together.

6. Some day I want my job description to be artist/photographer/designer/yoga instructer.

Stockholm Street Inspiration

For the devout street-style stalkers among you, I doubt these pictures will be anything new. For those of you who don't check 15 street style sites daily, I hope you enjoy this Swedish inspiration from Stockholm Street Style.

Love the t-strap shoes.

This next one is super simple...but I have this same H&M skirt and have tried to wear it many times but can't seem to make it into a great outfit. I love how she's added a skinny brown belt to it.

I must find a gold braid headband like this one! Or make it myself.

Simple is always best.

What I Wore and Some Photos

Well, as I mentioned yesterday, it snowed here on Friday night for about an hour. It was really odd seeing as Vancouver rarely gets snow even in the winter let alone in April! It was practically a blizzard which shows how much climate change is messing with our weather. I say climate change as opposed to 'global warming' because, what we are witnessing is the breakdown of our biosphere, not a warmer climate.
Anyway, here's what the snow looked like from my apartment:

Then, the next day the sky looked like this:

The flowers were out in full force as you can see:

I had a cold and so, despite the beautiful weather, I was freezing and I wore lots of layers, my Cowichan toque and some ugly but warm winter boots:

I love Commercial Drive and the surrounding neighbourhood.

Beautiful day.

Beautiful Vancouver

Okay, despite the random blizzard Friday evening (yeah, seriously, what was that about?) Vancouver has been having some fairly lovely weather lately. I've been pretty sick the past few days so no outfit shots unless you want to see me in pyjamas, lying on the couch under blankets. Didn't think so. Instead, here are some pictures I took a couple weeks ago during a Saturday morning walk around the Stanley Park seawall with some of my best friends in the world.

Living here makes me so happy. No matter what, you are always in for a beautiful view.
I promise I'll update much more often as soon as I'm not coughing and blowing my nose every few minutes.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes and a Couch?

As promised, here are my pictures from the Army and Navy shoe sale yesterday. It surprisingly wasn't as busy as expected nor was anyone viciously shoving aside others in pursuit of the perfect wedges. Remember, this sale continues until the 27th and they are constantly bringing out more shoes so you still have plenty of time left to drop in. They were literally bringing out boxes and boxes of shoes and putting them on the shelves the whole time we were there, so don't worry if you haven't gone yet. I'm definitely going to go back once more next week to see what else they'll have.

V. amongst the some of the shoes we tried on.

A cute pair of ankle boots I liked. May have to go back for these. They were only $24.99 I think.

Some really hot mary-jane wedges that I would love to wear if I wasn't such a disastrous combination of tall and clumsy.

Amazing cranberry red t-strap mary-janes with a stiletto heel modelled by V. We all loved these and all agreed that we must avoid the stiletto trap. You buy them because they're pretty, wear them once and fall the whole time, then never wear them again except while prancing around your house. Kind of a waste.

The only thick-strapped wedges I found. I liked them, my friends hated them and in the end the velvety soles turned me off them completely. Although they were incredibly comfortable, I'd much rather have ones with a wooden sole.

Full shot of a tired Vancouverista with the wedges. I actually carried them around the store planning to buy them for quite awhile but I just know I'll eventually find something similar that I like far more.

The t-strap flats I couldn't find in my size but V. bought, so I can live vicariously through her shoes. I must find a pair of these when I go back next week. Must.

The mary-jane flats I did buy. Simple perfection.

On a totally different note, I am in love with this sofa. I've walked by it a few times now at this new store on Beatty St. called Nest. The first time I saw it I was so shocked by it that I had to stop and stare for a minute. Isn't it so lovely? I am obsessed with flocked wallpaper patterns. It would look amazing in my dark red living room. Don't you think? I don't even want to know what it costs. While I was taking these photos a salesman inside the store was watching me with a confused look on his face just to the right, out of the frame, of the first photo.

Beautiful. Sorry the images aren't better but it's hard to take a picture through a glass store window.

Gossip Girl Countdown: 4 More Days

On Monday we will finally finally get to see a new episode of the best fashioniable show of the year - Gossip Girl! As a writer, I can't in good conscience condemn the strike, but man it has been hard to live without new GG episodes! I am getting really excited just typing this.
To get you excited too - here are some pictures of some of the show's best fashion moments so far.

It's going to be amazing! These images are from The CW via TV.com.

On another note, my friends V, S and I ventured to the Army and Navy on Hastings bright and early this morning to do some shoe sale shopping. I'll post pictures tomorrow of what we found!

Searching For Perfect Summer Sandals

With the Army and Navy sale in mind I have scoured the internet looking for my ideal sandal. I know I want something preferably with a wedge, thick straps, in brown, tan or black and not made of any animal products.

These are all so nice I can't even pick a favourite. Left to right these are from Old Navy, ASOS, Aldo, Aldo, GoJane, Michael Kors at Bluefly, Stuart Weitzman at Bluefly, Nine West and Nine West. Okay, I think the ASOS ones are actually my favourite but I love them all!

Annual Army and Navy Shoe Sale!!!

Once a year, the lovely DES (that's downtown east-side for you non-Vancouverites reading this: it's not exactly the best part of town) turns into shoe shopping heaven for the women of this beautiful city. Starting Wednesday morning at 8:00 am, the annual designer shoe sale at Army and Navy begins. It will continue for 12 days. They keep bringing out more and more shoes throughout the sale, so don't worry about lining up at 5:00 am on the first day, as some crazy girls will likely do.
I suggest you go often if you are really keen to find something awesome, and make sure to wear flats or slip-ons for quick changes!
Okay, you can start breathing again now.

What I'm Wearing Today

Once again, no time in the morning for an outfit shot! I need to dig out my tripod next time I'm out at my parent's house!

This is roughly what I'm wearing today. Of course, my bag's not Prada and my legging's are American Apparel not Kova & T but we must work with what Polyvore provides, non?

Spring Wish List

I compiled a short list of things I'd like to acquire to round out my spring/summer wardrobe. Of course, the real wish list I have is embarrassingly much, much longer than this. These are the things I probably will buy in the coming months. Just not these exact versions of them. As if I would/could buy a Prada bag.

My spring must-have list:
A hippie, fringed bag.
A small-floral pattern dress or even skirt.
Many new colours of tights.
Wide-leg sailor-type dark blue jeans.
Straight-leg black jeans.
An army style jacket.

Images on Polyvore from: Prada, Junya Watanabe, Monsoon, welovecolors.com, Topshop, Diesel, Z Brand.

Vancouver Shopping Alert: H&M ventures slightly closer to downtown

If you've been reading this blog for awhile, you'll know that I have had some issues with the arrival of H&M in Vancouver. This morning, while I was waiting for the skytrain, I was pleasantly suprised to see an ad announcing the opening date of the new H&M at Lougheed Town Centre: April 24th.
Now, this is a slight improvement over the Coquitlam Centre location. If Coquitlam is Siberia, then Lougheed is maybe Moscow. It will tide us over until the store opens in Pacific Centre. Plus, one of my best friend's apartments is right next to Lougheed, so I already go there, and at least at that location I will have a reason for the looong skytrain trip beyond shopping.
However (and I only want to say this one more time, H&M!!) if they fill this store with more 6-month-old merchandise leftover from what they couldn't sell in Europe, I will be forced to start crying right in the middle of the store. That's right. The girl you see bawling on the floor of H&M, madly tearing clothes off racks and throwing them at sales assistants is not crazy. She is just me.

Daily Outfit: Plaid

I really need to try and start taking actual daily photos of my outfits so that I have more of a record of what I've worn. I believe this was what I wore Thursday or Friday.

A little plaid, a vest and the moccasins you can't get off my feet unless it's pouring. Which, of course, it usually is here in rain city. I'm also wearing one of these adorable heart-shaped rhinestone hair clips from H&M. I'll have to take a close-up shot of them and post it later.

Young Carine Roitfeld

Wow Carine was gorgeous when she was young! Too bad she starved herself her whole life or she might still have skin like this.

I like how this photo looks timeless, modern and really '70s all at once.

Heidi Braids

On Saturday I wore my hair in heidi braids. I kind of felt like I looked 5 but they did add another element to my outfit. I liked it more as the day went on.

This is a good solution for those days when you don't feel like washing your hair or you just want it off your neck.

Update: I just saw these braids featured on Who What Wear Daily and Fashionista has a tutorial. Also, WWWD calls them milkmaid braids, which really makes them sound like a hairstyle for a 5-year-old to me.

I don't care what the thermometer says...

It is Spring. Look, I have proof!

Vancouver has been having a seriously cold early spring so far. At least the cherry blossoms are starting to come out though. I took these pictures on the weekend while walking around my neighbourhood. In celebration of spring I've made the last one into my new banner.
