Blame it on the start of the rainy season (rainy season in Vancouver = the next 7 months at least) but I seem to be watching a ton of TV online lately. Two shows that I'm really into right now are
Mad Men and
American Dreams which both happen to take place in the early 1960's. The clothes on these shows are seriously amazing. It's crazy to me to think that my parents (who both graduated high school in 1962 - they had me late) were wearing these kinds of clothes since most of the pictures still around from their youth are a bit later and a lot more hippie.
American Dreams is a seriously cheesy show but it's kind of like the greatest indulgence ever for anyone, like me, who feels deeply that they are living in the wrong era. The clothes are typical of what people were wearing in middle America at the time. Lots of plaid skirts, tight cardigans, penny loafers, thick eyeliner, big hair, and form-fitting dresses. Don't be too surprised if I start dressing like this soon.
Mad Men is a great show (seriously, if you haven't yet, go watch it) which takes place in Manhattan at around the same time. The clothes are a lot more
glamorous (especially on the 'city girls') and you can see the late '50s styles still lingering as well. I love how perfectly put-together many of the female characters are. With matching shoes, coats, hats and jewels for every outfit. They are at a level of glamour which no longer
exists. I can't imagine how exhausting it must have been for women to wear rollers in their hair every night and a full face of makeup each day, but seriously they make it look (almost) worth it.

The Michael Kors FW 08 collection shows us how to do early '60s glamour in a modern way. Although really, this to me, is a timeless look.
